Family-Friendly Fall Activities: Auburn’s Apple Lane Orchard

by | Oct 16, 2024

If you’re looking for a fun fall getaway not too far from Folsom, CaliforniaThe Orchard at Apple Lane in Auburn might be your perfect pick. This charming spot is about a 30-minute drive northeast of Folsom, making it an easy day trip for families, couples, or anyone craving apple-themed adventures.

A Fresh Start for an Old Favorite

The Orchard at Apple Lane isn’t exactly new – it’s been around for over 100 years! But in 2023, it got a major makeover when local families bought it and gave it some TLC. They spruced up the old buildings, added some excellent new touches, and breathed new life into this classic apple orchard.

One of the new owners, Ashley Streicher, grew up in Auburn and has a soft spot for this place. She and her partners wanted to keep the orchard’s history alive while making it a fun hangout for the community. They’ve done a great job so far – the orchard is now open year-round and offers way more than just apples.

What’s New at the Orchard?

The Orchard at Apple Lane isn’t your average apple farm. Sure, you can still pick apples when they’re in season, but there’s so much more to do:

  • Shop at the farmstand: They’ve stocked it with local cheeses, meats, candy, dried fruit, and cute gifts. Most of their stuff comes from women-owned and California-based small businesses.
  • Grab a coffee: There’s a pop-up coffee shop where you can get your caffeine fix.
  • Sip some cider: They’re working on getting a wine and beer license, so you might be able to enjoy some adult beverages soon.
  • Hang out: They’ve created cozy outdoor seating areas where you can relax among the apple trees.

A Feast for Your Eyes (and Stomach)

The new owners have given the orchard a stylish makeover. They painted the farm buildings a rich chocolate brown and added a cute new logo and signs. It’s like the orchard got a fancy new outfit!

But don’t worry – they’ve kept the best parts of the old orchard. Norma, who’s been baking fruit pies for the farmstand for 30 years, is still there whipping up her famous treats. And the orchard still has rows of apple, pear, fig, plum, and peach trees that you can explore.

More Than Just Apples

While apples are the star of the show, The Orchard at Apple Lane is branching out (pun intended). They plan to host various events throughout the year, like community dinners and collaborations with local chefs. They’ve already had cool gatherings, like an orchard dinner with hard cider pairings and live music.

The owners are also considering turning some of the small cottages on the property into Airbnb rentals. So, in the future, you might be able to stay overnight and wake up to the smell of apple blossoms!

A Place for Everyone

One of the best things about The Orchard at Apple Lane is that it’s become a spot where everyone can find something to enjoy. Kids can run around and play, friends can meet for coffee, and families can celebrate the changing seasons together.

They’ve even started hosting field trips for local schools again, helping a new generation of kids learn about farming and where their food comes from.
